I laughed so hard that my chiropractor had to reset a couple of my ribs. But the pain was worthwhile, because almost immediately I fell under Mr. Strand’s magical spell, which propelled me into the wee hours of the night.
The characters so well-rounded through their innocent development as they glided through the years kept me connected while reminiscing through my personal years gone by. The author’s wonderful sense of humour, so heartfelt and nonchalant, managed to portray a vivid and all-engaging picture of two young boys maturing through the ages.
Artfully foreshadowing exciting events to come, I travelled with the characters toward the secret avenues of romance and initiation, all accomplished in good taste and a very entertaining way. Backed by his wonderful control of the language and a keen sense of stage and comedy, the storyline moved along flawlessly, dealing with real issues in a young person’s life but, all s -gently handled with kid gloves.
Mr. Strand is a very serious writer of literary comedy that reaches deeply into the human psyche and connects with his readers, making for a delightful and compelling read indeed. Without giving away the storyline, I found Mr. Strand’s book enormously rewarding and entertaining, making me look for more of his writings. I strongly recommend this book to everyone. | | |
