Many years ago when a an elf named Aobe used elfin magic to wage war, everyone decided it would better for elfin magic to be locked away. The magic was divided into two objects that were then sent far away. One of these items was the Circlet which could only be found by using the Bloodfire. The other was the Triskelion, the key to open the Circlet and free the magic.

Now an evil wizard is threatening to destroy the Glede. The only thing powerful enough to stop him is the elfin magic. For the magic to be restored, the Triskelion and Circlet must be joined. The bearers of these items have long been determined by destiny. One is Prince Jansson van Tannen, a human from the North Lands. Prince Jansson is ill-equipped to deal with his destiny. Even though he was the heir to the throne, Jansson had never been taught anything that he would need for the future. Especially bearing the Bloodfire or even how to wield it's powers.

The other bearer was Treyas Beckering, a lowly elf adopted by a human healer. Yet Treyas was more important than anyone realized. Treyas was only half elven, his other half gave him the ability to wield the magic the Triskelion held. But his control was only fragile at best.

His only hope lay in delivering the Triskelion to Lidgerwood, the home of the white elves.

As Jansson and Treyas begin their journeys to fulfill their destiny, they are beset by many problems. Captured by trolls, attacked by Phallian birds and rotagillers, Jansson and Treyas must rely on the help of others if they are to succeed. And succeed they must or their land is doomed.

Ms. Francis has done a terrific job. Her characters are full of life and emotions. The twists and turns of the plot will leave the reader on the edge of their seat. A must read that will become a keeper.
