Magick is an exceptionally well-done tale of romance; magick and the eternal struggle between good and evil.

Our tale opens with Diana, or Dee as she prefers to be called, experiencing a horrible dream of bloody sacrifice and ritual magick. Even awake the dream sticks with her as if it were a real experience and not just a dream. However Diana has had at least one dream that turned out to be reality. Her husband and father-in-law were both killed in a plane crash just after she dreamed of the event. But that was just coincidence. Or so Dee told herself.

As the story unfolds Dee learns, horribly, painfully, that her dreams are not dreams. They are real happenings. She is a Seer, her powers just now unfolding. An extremely evil mage named Shiva is determined to garner those powers for his Queen.

An inexperienced though powerful mage, named Gwynvid, or Win, has been dispatched by the Council on orders of the Goddess to protect Dee and bring her to safety. This however proves to be extremely difficult. Not only does Dee not believe in magick, she is convinced that she's perfectly capable of taking care of herself. Win unwisely resorts to a compulsion spell. This of course gets him into trouble when he finally gets Dee safely to Stronghold where his grandparents Guardian Ogma, and Priestess Aradia await.

Though she is supposedly safe in Stronghold, Dee has to deal with knowing that Shiva is still determined to subvert her to evil, her own growing powers, and an attraction to Win that she doesn't care to admit. Complicating matters is the fact that Win, his family, and even the Goddess herself insist that she and Win are lifemates, two halves of the same soul.

In one final confrontation with Shiva, in which the very existence of Stronghold hangs in the balance, Dee has to come to terms with a reality that a few days before did not exist for her.

This is one of the best tales of love and Magick that I have read in many a year. I recommend it to any reader of the genre.
