VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Several years ago, Sharon Lee & Steve Miller, introduced us to the Liaden Universe.
For lovers of science fiction, the Liaden series is among the best of the best.
Having been a lifelong fan, this reviewer was extremely excited to be offered the opportunity to
review, the latest installment, titled, The Balance of Trade.
This novel differs signifigantly in comparison to the previous books, as the primary character
is a terran, Jethri Gobelyn and the story centers around his journey of self-discovery.
As always, the writing is flawless, and the characterization wonderful.
In the beginning, the reader learns that Jethri, a truly talented and honorable young man,
is living on the human trading ship, Gobelyn's Market. Having lost his father at a young
age, and burdened with a mother, who would as sooner forget his existence, Jethri has
only his shipmates to rely on.
Being fascinated by the Liaden culture, he is drawn into a situation, which results in an
apprenticeship with the Liaden trader, Norm Ven'Delin clan Ixis. At first, acclimating to
his new life is very difficult for Jethri. However, over the course of the novel, the reader
sees this young man overcome prejudice, and mature into a skillfull trader. We are given an
insight into the fascinating Liaden culture and learn about the true meaning of, the balance
of trade.
Whether you are new to the series or are a die-hard fan, this novel will not disappoint!
This reviewers first thought when the book was finished was, where is the next one?
Sharon Lee and Steve Miller, are two of the most talented writers to be found in the genre today.
I highly recommend, The Balance of Trade, and cannot wait for the next installment!
