Blood

by Jim Butcher

If you haven't read these - start at Book I because this is a strong
story-arc of action-action-action-sex-action-relationship that is a
page-turner.
I'm almost finished reading this and expect to review
it.
I had been very disappointed in Cerulean
Sins because it seemed to me as a writer that Hamilton had
lost "control" of the material -- there was a lack of discipline
underlying the material, a thematic wandering which created serious
confusion in readers. That is usually reported by readers as
"boring" "uninteresting" or "dull."
Because of that lack of discipline, the more unlikeable elements in the
plot seemed garish and glaring and readers were losing interest -- feeling
cheated.
However in Incubus
Dreams, Hamilton has regained technical control of the material and is
weaving a story that explains how the tough-as-nails heroine of the first
book turns into -- well, something totally different by the
"end" of this series.

Whopping discounts on this one.
The sex scenes are long, detailed, involved, nearly continuous, and
very very slow -- but clearly this is deliberate on the author's part, not
the result of a lack of skill or story/plot direction. Overall, this
book reads more like a good fanzine with a strong editor than a
professionally published book. Worth studying.

Summer
Knight (The Dresden Files, Book 4)
by Jim Butcher
List Price:
$6.99
A Paranormal Detective series -- there have only been a
few of these. Can you name 3? I don't mean detectives who are
vampires -- I mean detectives who are adepts, wizards, magicians --
forensic magic. Read
reviews on amazon.
Death
Masks (The Dresden Files, Book 5)
by Jim Butcher
List Price:
$6.99
This is the 5th book in the Dresden
Files Series.
A duel between a Vampire and a practicing professional wizard to end the
war between vampires and wizards.
OK, I recommend this because I wrote it! See all
the rest I have to say about it and read sample chapters here.
And see the rest of this page for my taste in vampires.
The New Saint Germain novel -- I highly
recommend these novels, though I would not recommend that a beginning
writer attempt to imitate them. They are successful despite being
almost plotless and all identical. To pull that off takes a huge
inventory of incredibly honed writing skills.
In e-book form this book has won the LORIE as best paranormal romance (not
e-book romance; romance) and the Lord Ruthven Assembly award as best
vampire novel (not e-book vampire novel; vampire novel). It is also an
EPPIE finalist (the EPPIE _is_ an e-book award). Now it becomes a trade
paperback--and two months before its release it is already a Featured Book
on Amazon.com.

You've seen this book advertised here, and you've probably noticed
it sounds like a Sime~Gen
novel -- but it's NOT related to Sime~Gen at all. However,
there's a very good reason that it sounds like it might be
Sime~Gen.
Read it and see if you can figure out that reason.
