Anthologies are a "Market" for writers of short fiction. Study some anthologies to see how stories are chosen to group around a given theme, then find some that are asking for stories in various "Writer's Market" listings.

the first couple of chapters of Laurell K. Hamilton's current
vampire novel, Incubus
Dreams. The story is entitled (appropriately) "Beyond
the Ardeur".
Hamilton outdoes herself in Incubus Dreams -- it reads like a fanzine for those looking for porn but unwilling to admit it. Still, overall the Anita Blake saga has many interesting redeeming features. |

Justly famous for . . .more. . . Writers in the sf/f field, but most especially writers in the Futuristic and Supernatural Romance fields really REALLY need to study John W. Campbell Jr.'s contributions to the sf/f field and the Don A. Stuart stories are a good place to start. Just be sure you compare the story to the environment in which the story was originally published. Campbell used fiction as part of his ongoing dialog with other writers about what sf/f really is. |
