Boxmaster's Disgrace

This book is unpublished.

What Has Gone Before

In Boxmaster, Odirin takes Yran to cut shard and Yran becomes the first non-human to survive that process and earn the rank of Journeyman Boxmaster.  Yran rescues an infant from certain death, names him Terrel and gives him to Lii, Tsjaim and Yslanta, the only Kethsem family living off Kethsem, to foster.  By Kethsem custom, this makes Yran and even Odirin somewhat part of Lii's little family.

With the help of Lii and Yran, Odirin vanquishes the Pirates who stole his Box and comes to peace with his loss of a Shard.

In Boxmaster's Disgrace

As Yran's hope that life will soon get better for him is kindled, the consequences of the irregularities in Yran's cutting of Shard become increasingly apparent.

In the midst of the stress caused by problems with Shard, Yran is kidnapped along with one of Odirin's Boxes.  The Kidnappers believe the Box belongs to Yran, and they want to force him to use it for their purposes.  Yran could have saved his own life by using Odirin's Box as required, but he does not because it's against the Guild Oath.

Yran successfully resists and escapes to where Odirin can save his life, only to find that Odirin's attempts to find and rescue him have led Odirin into Disgrace.

Feeling responsible for failing to stop the kidnappers, Odirin sets out to find and rescue Yran.  He digs into Yran's background and discovers how very, very wrong he's been about the non-human all this time.  This hardens his determination to find Yran.  To succeed however, Odirin has to usurp one of Yran's Shards.  The penalty is to be stripped of all Shards and held in captivity on the secret and isolated planet where Shard is mined.

With Odirin incarcerated, and Yran still a Journeyman, Yran has no authority to investigate and exonerate Odirin.  But  with the help of his new trainer, he figures out what is really going on and orchestrates matters so that Odirin is cleared of wrongdoing.  It almost costs Yran his life.

When all the dust settles, both Yran and Odirin have a full complement of Shard under their control -- and are well on their way to becoming a legendary team.
