CHECKSHEET--ANALYSIS
1. Where does the paper get the list of points to analyze by? The source should be clearly identified.
2. Briefly, list the characteristics covered in the analysis.
3. What makes the introduction effective/ineffective? Is there a clear thesis statement? (It should indicate what the writer intends to show that the object of the analysis is.)
4. Does the introduction, which ends with the thesis, take up more than 20% of the finished paper? If so, how can it be shortened and still be effective?
5. What is being analyzed? What does the paper claim it is, according to the characteristics by which it is being analyzed?
6. Are the points in the paper in sensible order? Do you find anywhere the paper claims a relationship that you cannot see? Where?
7. Are any vital points weak or missing?
8. Is anything about the paper confusing?
9. Do you find any paragraphs which do not stick to their topics? Tell which ones, and how to fix them.
10. Are there any one-sentence or otherwise undeveloped paragraphs? Explain where they are and how to fix them.
11. Does the conclusion summarize the analysis? Does that summary provide a persuasive, convincing argument that what is analyzed is actually what the paper claims it is?
12. Are there any mechanical errors? What are they?
