Instructions for Final Exam
I am very sorry to have come down with the flu at this point in the semester, but it happens to all of us! Thank goodness for modern technology: I am able to put this information up on the website from home, so that you need not get behind at this late date when there is no time to catch up.
The final examination is a theme. It may be any one of the four kinds of themes we have written this semester:
Three-point theme
Analysis
Comparison
Persuasion
Detailed instructions for all these themes are on the class website, and you have done all of them before. Choose the kind of theme you enjoyed most or felt most comfortable with. Be sure you choose a different topic than the one you used earlier in the semester.
The outline is due Tuesday, December 7--10 points. The reading assignment for Thursday, December 2, is postponed to Tuesday, December 7, and you also have the final e-mail assignment due that day--20 points. Be sure the e-mail messages you turn in include a minimum of two that you have written. Written, not just passed along. Your messages should total 200 words minimum.
The final theme should be 1200-1500 words in length. You may turn it in any time after Tuesday, December 7, but the latest it can be turned in is at the time of the final examination for your section. During that two-hour time period I will be in the computer classroom, so you can come and print out your paper. Do not miss the deadline. Take your time, do it right, but get it in before the deadline.
To make the best grade you can on the final, write the theme before the time of the final exam. Technically, you may come in and write it during that two-hour period, but wise students will finish it up well ahead of the deadline.
Do not shove any papers under the door of my office! I have a mailbox in the main English Department office, FH 7th Floor, Suite C. Put early themes in my mailbox, not under the door of my office, not on a stray desk somewhere, not any place I won't find them.
If I am better Friday, I will keep regular office hours that day; if not, I will definitely be available Monday. I am always available by e-mail.
When you have completed the Final Theme and turned it in, you have completed the requirements for English 101. Congratulations!
