What is the Sime~Gen RPG?

What is the Sime~Gen RPG?Sime~Gen is a universe created by Jacqueline Lichtenberg, with print-published novels written by both JL and Jean Lorrah. A movie script by Anne Pinzow is doing the rounds, and there is a sizeable fandom with several web-published stories and novels, and a fair bit of good quality artwork. The background to Sime~Gen is described at http://www.simegen.com/sgfandom/welcommittee/intros~g.html. Sime~Gen has it's own web page at http://www.simegen.com/ and a variety of fan pages - most now hosted on Sime~Gen's own server. We're devising a roleplaying game - a book with guidelines and information to help people build their own stories. Roleplay is partway between improvisational theatre and the 'How to Host A Murder' style of party game. PlaytestJuly 1999: we have stalled on the RPG because we've been busy putting the technical side of the Sime~Gen webpage system together.
August 1998: We've reached this milestone. We have a system which we feel is viable, and which is being tested. We're now fleshing out the explanation of the system, the background details of the world, and (horrors) coming up with sample scenarios, which we'll be doing during the playtesting. Then, when the playtesters are happy and we've got all that, it's 'just' polishing.
DO NOT COPY OR DISTRIBUTE DRAFTS. This RPG will be published commercially, but to be acceptable to a publisher, it has to have never been seen outside a very small group. If you are critiquing or playtesting, you are trusted to keep it within the group. SubmissionsIf you wish to submit material for the RPG book, check out the submissions page.Team MembersKennet is our team organiser, taking care of all those annoying details that get in the way. He's also doing the section on anatomy - that being his personal passion.Rich is polishing and fleshing out the outline-work that Jenn's producing. Rich is especially responsible for number crunching. Allison is making up a glossary of terms for us, which is a harder job than it sounds. Jenn V. is producing the outline work and the gamesystem, defining the universe, describing the history and either producing or editing the background section and the scenarios. Richard GencksHrm.Well, lets see. I am married to Kennet, and was in on this SG RPG idea since the first week. As far as experience goes, I have RPed and GMed Traveller, MegaTraveller, RuneQuest, D&D, AD&D, GURPS, BattleTech, ElfQuest, Call of Cthulhu, Legentia, Twilight 2000, StarFire, ICE, White Wolf, and about a dozen other game systems I can't think of right off. Both Kennet and I also playtested one of the StarFire suppliments. For some reason they wanted me to do the "number crunching" for this system... I have been gaming for the last 18 years (gads, it's been *that* long?), and have been online gaming for the last 4 years.
Jenn VespermanIn mid-1997, I was quietly roleplaying on my favourite MUSH (Indianapolis by Night: eris.erisian.org 9999), and Kennet suddenly said "I've just been given a chance to get published!"We all looked at him, of course, and asked what had happened. The author of some books I'd read years ago wanted an RPG written for her series, and had approved Kennet to do it.
Rather facetiously - and definately not expecting my life to be turned inside out - I asked if he needed any help.
And that's how I found myself on the Sime~Gen RPG team. Other S~G RoleplayThere are several groups of people roleplaying on IRC, in Sime~Gen based scenarios. A page about Sime~Gen roleplay can be found at http://members.aol.com/tentacled/ircgames.html. |
