Your fans, customers, or members can type in yourname.com, yourcompanyname.com, or yourorganization.org in a web browser and go directly to your site.
You design the site yourself, and it doesn't carry someone else's advertising.
You can run a newsletter or a listserv for your fans, customers, or members, and have your own "opt-in" mailing list.
You can sell your product directly from your own website rather than only being able to send people to other sites to purchase it.
You can do all of the above by hosting your domain on the Sime~Gen server.
Obtaining your domain name
You are responsible for obtaining your domain name and paying the fees to keep it current. If you do not yet have one, our staff will walk you through the steps in obtaining it, and our webmaster will install it on the Sime~Gen server. If the name you want is not available, our staff will help you choose an available name that represents yourself, your company, or your organization.
You may have more than one domain name pointed to your website. (Examples, simegen.com and simegen.net.) When you initially set up your site with us, we will install up to three domain names for the setup fee of $25.00. However, if you want to add domain names later, there will be additional setup charges.
What you get from Sime~Gen Inc.
You get a website with 50MB of space available, set up and ready for you to install your own pages. We will arrange a safe means of getting your username and password to you or the person who is building and maintaining your website.
You get top security, and one of the best uptime records on the Internet. There is no such a thing as a site with no downtime, but our server has less downtime than most corporate sites.
You get up to five email addresses @yourdomain, a cgi bin running perl or python, and webalizer log analysis.
If you plan to build and/or maintain your site yourself, you probably already have a favorite web building program. If you do not, we recommend either Dreamweaver, which is available for purchase from many webstores, or Arachnophilia, which is available free from arachnophilia.com. Both of these programs produce clean code, which you will greatly appreciate should you have pages that require frequent updating.
You will also receive a Mailman mailing list, set up and ready for you to use. Our assistant webmaster will walk you through maintaining it, although it is actually very intuitive. You may set it up as a mailing list on which your fans, customers, or members may hold discussions, or you may set it up as a newletter instead. You are responsible for clearing the spam traps on your mailing list a minimum of once each month.
If you need two mailing lists, for example one for discussion and one to use as a newsletter, there is a charge of $20.00 per year for each additional mailing list.
If you need anything else, please enquire. We will provide it if we are able, at the lowest possible cost (sometimes free, depending on what it is).
For security reasons, we cannot provide Front Page Extensions.
Your responsibilities
You are responsible for building and maintaining your website, and for keeping your right to your domain name up to date. You are responsible for maintaining your mailing list(s), including clearing the spam trap(s) a minimum of once each month.
You are responsible for the content of your website, making certain that it remains legal.
You are responsible for maintaining a backup of your site, so that you can replace it if necessary. If you are hacked, it is your responsibility to let us know immediately, so that we can help you plug the security gap that allowed it to happen.
If you cannot restore your site from your own backup, we will restore it from the latest backup we have. However, our backup may not reflect any changes you have made in the past 48-72 hours.
If you have been hacked and not let us know timely, as our backup runs automatically it may be of the hacked site instead of the original. All the more reason you should maintain your own backups.
If you want to install software such as a storefront, discussion board, blogsite, streaming audio or video, or anything similar, query webmaster@simegen.com before buying or installing such items. They must be compatible with our system and security. If our staff must design and/or install it, there may be an extra one-time charge.
Restrictions
We will not host sites that do, sell, or promote anything illegal, that violate copyrights or trade marks, or that promote hate.
Even though they may be legal, we exercise our right to refuse to host pornography or gambling sites.
Sites requiring huge amounts of bandwidth, such as video or auction sites, are simply too large for the server we currently own. We have nothing against such sites, but simply do not currently have the facilities to host them.
Costs
There is a one-time $25.00 setup fee, which includes building the space where you will build your site, and attaching your URL to it. Thereafter, hosting is $10.00 per month (three-month minimum) or $100 per year (a 20% discount for paying annually).
Payment may be made by check or money order, or through PayPal.
Extras
Additional space or bandwidth may be available at extra charge. Query webmaster@simegen.com for further information about your specific situation.
Additional mailing lists are available for $20.00 per year.
Special software such as a storefront, discussion board, or blog, must first be okayed by our webmaster before being installed. There may be a one-time installation charge.
If you want to have streaming audio or video, flash, or any other special work on your domain, enquire first, webmaster@simegen.com. If we have to design and/or install it, there may be a one-time charge.

You will be given emergency contact email and telephone numbers for our technical staff once you are hosting with us.
Sime~Gen Inc. and Simegen.com warrant to make every reasonable effort to keep websites up and accessible at all times, but have no responsibility for off-site conditions which prevent viewers from accessing the site. Offsite conditions are outages and interruptions which may prevent users in some areas from accessing the simegen.com website.
Simegen.com has no responsibility for interruptions caused by fire, flood, earthquake or other natural disaster, or by power outages not under our control.
If, for reasons that are under our control, the Simegen.com server itself is down for more than 72 hours in total, or more than 48 consecutive hours, during any one month that a customer has a site hosted with us, one extra week will be added free of charge to the length of time the domain is hosted.
In the case of vandalism (hacking), the sole responsibility of Sime~Gen Inc. and Simegen.com is to restore the affected pages from backup within twenty-four hours of the incident's being reported to us.
